The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum An international NGO that promotes socially responsible business practices that benefit businesses and society and which help to achieve social, economic and environmentally sustainable development. A good set of links available.
Cities Alliance The Cities Alliance (launched by the World Bank and the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat)) is a global partnership to help cities develop pro-poor policies, good urban governance, etc. Promotes partnerships between local and national governments, and those organisations directly representing the urban poor - it provides some funding and aims to spread learning.
USAID's New Partnerships Initiative The NPI Resource Guide brings together the results of the NPI Learning Phase (in which 15 USAID Missions participated) and is designed as a tool for strategic partnering. A series of guidelines and case studies are available, mostly relevant to donors interested in fostering such partnerships.
Development Gateway - Poverty Development Gateway aims to improve peoples lives in developing countries by building partnerships and information systems that provide access to knowledge for development through ICTs.

The Partnering Initiative The Partnering Initiative is a collaboration between the International Business Leaders Forum and the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry. Business Partners for Development BPD Water & Sanitation used to be part of a wider, project-based initiative that was set up to study, support and promote strategic examples of partnerships involving business, civil society and government working together for the development of communities around the world. BPD 1 had four 'clusters' - the Water and Sanitation Cluster (our previous incarnation), the Natural Resources Cluster, the Global Partnership for Youth Development and the Global Road Safety Partnership
CorCom (Corporate Community Investment Service) An American organisation which creates links between business and NGOs. Download free publications, such as 'Making contact' and 'Ethical Issues in partnerships'.
Urban Environmental Improvement and Poverty Reduction An IIED briefing paper examining the potential role of private enterprises in improving living environments in poor neighbourhoods (in both large and small towns). Discusses problems associated with serving the urban poor, and with weak institutional capacity.

PsEau: A French NGO which specialises in research and knowledge sharing, with good contacts throughout the francophone world.
WEDC: The Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) undertakes education, training, research, and consultancy relating to infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries.
The IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre: A Dutch NGO which specialises in research and knowledge sharing regarding water and sanitation in developing countries.
The International Water Association: An international membership association "for the improvement of urban water management worldwide in an environmentally sustainable way".

NEW: The International Forum for Utility Regulation The World Bank, in partnership with various other institutions established IFUR to "improve the exchange of information on infrastructure reforms and utility regulation, encourage policy debate among various stakeholder groups, and expand opportunities for professional training".

Training and Support
UNDPs Public-Private Partnerships for the Urban Environment (PPPUE) UNDP's PPPUE facility supports the development of innovative partnerships at the local level to meet the challenge of providing basic urban environmental services. Focussed on assisting small and medium-sized cities, PPPUE works with all potential stakeholders. (provides some grant funding and hosts a 'Global Learning Network').
Funding Opportunities for Partnerships with the Seed Initiative "Supporting innovative partners in sustainable development" (Founding partners Stakeholder Forum, UNEP, and IUCN, Collaborating partners, Partnerships Central and the Global Public Policy Institute GPPi). The award aims to reward innovations in project cooperation between small and large businesses, local and international NGOs, public authorities and UN Agencies. The maximum value of services offered as part of the awards package is EUR 25,000. Submission requirements include: focus on environmental, social, and economic development in support of the Millennium Development Goals and/or the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation; a minimum of three partner organisations from different stakeholder groups and inclusion of local actors; and a business plan.

Postgraduate Certificate in Cross-Sector Partnership This unique programme which offers candidates upon completion of the 9 month part-time course, a Postgraduate Certificate from The University of Cambridge in partnership theory and practice, was developed by three established and influential institutions - The University of Cambridge, The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum and The Copenhagen Centre. The course is designed for senior professionals from any sector whose role requires them to understand, develop or manage cross-sector partnerships, and provides participants with a broad and deep understanding of the key issues and challenges facing cross-sector partnerships, as well as practical tools, skills and techniques.
